A three-kilometer film trip along 300 km among the wonders of Puglia
edited by the editorial staff
Summer 2018 has already been prepared and the numerous film festivals that fill the national program one by one are about to begin. Among these there is one that has distinguished itself in the palimpsest of festivals of the bathing season, assisting the wonders of the Settima Arte with those of a territory like that of Puglia. And that’s where every year, with the same precision as a Swiss watch, “the man of movie stars”, Romeo Conte, director and founder of the International Short Film Festival Salento Finibus Terrae, now SA.FI.TER. – Puglia On The Road, brings its manifestation.
Now in its 16th edition [28 June – 8 July], for over three editions the festival has moved to the north of Salento, to be precise in the land of Bari and Foggia, involving the Municipalities of Castellana Grotte with its underground cavity complex breathtaking [28 – 30 June], San Severo [02 -05 July] and Peschici [06 – 08 July]. In this sense, his itinerant nature allowed him to claim a rather significant record, becoming absolutely the most extensive cinema event in Europe with its 300 km distance.
In this part of the territory there are the three stages of the entire program, which will see the presence of numerous guests called to accompany the projections of the short films of the various competitive sections [Corti Puglia, Reelove, Mondo Corto, Corto Italia, Human Rights and Children World , whose prize will be dedicated this year to the late Prof. Lorenzo Caiolo] and feature films out of competition. All this in places where the Seventh Art is almost no more. Hence the decision to define the director Romeo Conte, “the man of the movie stars”, almost as if to recall what was done years ago by the character of Giuseppe “Joe Morelli” Romolo played by Sergio Castellitto in Giuseppe Tornatore’s film.
The eleven days of SA.FI.TER. 2018 will open in the spectacular location of the Cavern of the Grave of the Castellana caves, a natural “cathedral” with breathtaking beauty, born in the arcane underground world, where there will be a new cinema hall set up 70 meters deep. There for three evenings you can attend an exciting mix of short films, documentaries and feature films, including the latest effort behind the camera by Carlo Verdone, the comedy “Benedetta follia”, accompanied for the occasion by the Roman director and actor on the inaugural day.
The “caravan” will then move from the hinterland of Bari to Foggia for the second act on stage in San Severo, where on the screen of the open-air arena of Piazza Municipio the witness will pass the guests who will accompany the projections of works on the short and long distance selected by the organizing committee. To close on the Gargano coast four days later with the three evenings of Peschici, which will have as scenery Piazza Sandro Pertini first and then the Arenile del Porto. The latter will be the location of the final chapter of this exciting 16th edition, with the first work by Alessandro Pondi, “Chi m’ha visto?” To close the festival in the presence of the director and the two performers Beppe Fiorello and Maurizio Lombardi.
But Carlo Verdone and Beppe Fiorello will not be the only prominent personalities to animate the parterre de rois of the SA.FI.TER. 2018. To come to the festival during the three stages other names such as those of Nicolas Vaporidis, Matteo Branciamore, Luigi Fedele, Vinicio Marchioni, Valentina Lodovini, Paolo Sassanelli, Massimo Popolizio, Lorenzo Richelmy, Eugenio Franceschini, Antonio Gerardi, Matilda De Angelis, Marco Ponti, Luca Miniero, Giorgio Amato, Andrea Magnani, Nicola Nocella, Francesco Bonelli, Edoardo Winspeare, Erika Blanc, Ivana Lotito, Francesco Falaschi, Francesco Ebbasta, The Jakal, Ciro Priello, Fabio Balsamo and Matteo Bianchini. Figures, theirs, that will give voice to the works present in the program of out-of-competition events: “Anche senza di te”, “Oh mio Dio!”, “Una vita spericolata”, “Easy – Un viaggio facile facile”, “La vita in comune”,”Sono tornato”, “Quanto basta”, “Uomo”, “Addio fottuti musi verdi” and “Due piccoli italiani”.
