TULIPANI DI SETA NERA – XII International Short Film Festival

From May 3 to May 5 there will be the “Tulipani di seta nera”, the International short film festival that aims to enhance diversity and make them protagonists in the cinema.

The International Festival is a theme dedicated to the social cinema that will be held in Rome, from 3 to 5 May. In the first two days, at the Cinema “Quattro Fontane”, the short films and final clips will be screened during the final evening, on May 5th at the Brancaccio Theater, the Gala evening will take place in the presence of institutions and great artists of television, cinema and show with the conducting of Metis Di Meo and Franco di Mare.

The new products introduced by Tulipani di Seta Nera are many and exciting, with the artistic direction of Paola Tassone, founder together with the Festival President Diego Righini and Ilaria Battistelli, President of the Associazione Cerca Lavoro Association and the producer Leonardo Jannitti Piromallo.

The twelfth edition will be dedicated to supporting diversity without prejudice, without stereotypes, talking with irony and simplicity to make the general public think, that every year follow the event with great attention. The finalists will treat different issues.

A festival that brings healthy emotions with the technical jury – presided over by Caterina D’Amico, Dean of the Experimental Center, Carlo Brancaleoni, Rai Cinema, Laura Bortolozzi, Rai Gold, Valeria Milillo, Actress, Paolo Genovese, Director, Vince Tempera, maestro d ‘orchestra – who accepts the arduous task of designating – for the short films and documentaries section – the winner.

“The goal of the festival – underline the organizers – is to promote the best works to create a meeting point between the world of cinema and the real world made up of different people and stories and to offer a stage to the new directors who know how to deal with the themes of diversity, a starting point to tell how the experience of those who have already struggled and maybe achieved some victory, is a treasure to be shared in. Our mission becomes not the simple story of a diversity, but the essence of diversity, knowing above all to enhance it”.

The aim is to make sure that the “short film”, the younger brother of the film, but above all the social short can grow year after year of television interest and gather more consensus among the fans of the genre that among viewers not in the works.

Not just short films, documentaries, commercials and short films: the festival also enhances video clips. Through the #SocialClip award, it intends to orient itself on this artistic means of communication in a very precise way: as a journey into the world of music and the web. We want to underline how, through music videos (by major or independent labels), images, texts and music can tell stories of important social value, thanks to the ability of music to become an instrument of universal communication.

The award, that wants to involve even the youngest, allows and encourages the use of smartphones for filming, now become the communication means of everyday life par excellence, used for some time also for the creation of video clips by professional singers. Registrations need to complete online at, they are open until 5 April 2019.

Born as a rib of the festival of short films, the section dedicated to video clips becomes independent, a goal that wears new and important partnerships. The added value of these collaborations will directly involve the participants, giving them the opportunity to compete for very special prizes, which will be revealed after the closing of the competition. The jury will consist of professionals from the world of music, cinema, social communication and producers.

From this year the event has opened to the public the opportunity to become a member of the #Giuria of Variety – by applying on April 12, 2019 – chaired by Elisa Costanza and with vice presidents Catello Masullo, Franco Mariotti, Massimo Nardin and Paola Dei, and from professionals in the cinema, social and civil society who have great attention to the short film as a tool for social communication.

Three of the main novelties of this year, Tulipani di Seta Nera is twinned with ASL Roma 1 for the campaign “Post-partum depression: an early diagnosis for an effective intervention”, a project conceived and coordinated by Prof. Pietro Saccucci, Director of the Department for the Women’s Health and the pathophysiology of ASL reproduction in Rome 1. During the event a spot made by ASL 1 will be shown in collaboration with S. Filippo Neri and TSN Hospital. Furthermore, during the festival, the best short winners of the “Filma la Bellezza” competition will be screened, a competition for audiovisual works produced by the youngsters of the Italian schools curated by the art psychologist Paola Dei.

This year, thanks to the partnership with Rai Cinema, the “SORRISO DIVERSO RAI CINEMA CHANNEL” Award returns, the short films that will pass the first selection will compete for the recognition of this special prize that will be awarded by the digital world audience to the work the greatest number of views on the channel specially created by RAI (

As in past editions, this year the entire interpreting service will be guaranteed from/in Italian sign language (LIS) kindly offered with the contribution of the Ente Nazionale Sordi – Onlus.
